US destroyer USS John S. McCain collides with merchant ship

The US guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain has collided with a merchant vessel east of Singapore and the Strait of Malacca.
Initial reports from the US navy indicate that the warship suffered damages. According to officials with US 7th Fleet Public Affairs, search and rescue operations are under way in coordination with local authorities. There are no immediate reports of any casualties. In June, a US destroyer was badly damaged and seven American sailors were killed in a collision off the coast of Japan. Guided-missile destroyers are designed to launch guided missiles and are also equipped to carry out anti-submarine, anti-air and anti-surface
