Huge explosion in Afghan capital Kabul heard across city

There has been a huge explosion outside a military compound in the Afghan capital Kabul.

Witnesses said the blast struck just after 1am local time on Monday and was heard across most of the city.

Early reports suggest it was a lorry bomb and the compound was housing foreign contractors.

Four attackers are fighting at the site, according to a security services official.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility.
